Places to visitThe Lands End Peninsular is well known for Ancient Stones and Monuments which are scattered all over the local moorland area with a historic trail starting at Pendeen. The Historic Tin Mines of Geevor and Levant are close by at Pendeen which has a lighthouse, a village shop and 2 pubs. St Just – Centre of the old mining district with several art galleries. Zennor – an unspoilt village on the road to St. Ives with a small local history museum and granite church. St Ives, with the famous Tate Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden, is a very popular artist colony with a beautiful harbour and beaches. The Penlee Museum, Penzance has mostly 19th century Newlyn School Art. The Newlyn Gallery is nearby. Lands End is much commercialised now but worth a visit – some interesting displays and spectacular cliff top scenery. There are firework displays every Tuesday and Thursday evenings in August. St Michael’s Mount – Home of Lord St Levan. Visit the mount by foot at low tide and by ferry boats at high tide. The famous Minack Theatre at Porthcurno is not far and there are performances there from Easter until September. It is also open every day for the museum and coffee shop. The beach there is fabulous. Mousehole – Picturesque fishing village with good pubs and restaurants. Lamorna Cove – small fishing cove, The Wink Pub and cove café. Porthgwarra – a small fishing cove between Porthcurno and Lands End. Have a cup of tea, a sandwich and a cake at Mary’s hut. Scilly Isles – Scillonian ferry from Penzance harbour, Helicopter from Penzance or the Sky Bus from Lands End airport. BeachesPortheras Cove – our lovely unspoilt sandy local beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. |
